Ibiza Old Town nightclub Sigma is hosting a brand new Drum & Bass residency, courtesy of Makino Agency. Launching Friday April 17th, the night is set to cement Drum & Bass’s growing presence on the island. Rosie Riot finds out more

Springtime in Ibiza and there’s a hum of activity in the air. International Music Summit is preparing to open its doors, DJ titans are unveiling their summer schedules, and brand new residencies are being announced. One of the latter is bass music agency Makino’s seasonal tenure at Ibiza Old Town venue, Sigma. Somewhat of a hidden gem, the 120 capacity intimate venue in the heart of Ibiza, has played host to some of Ibiza’s most atmospheric and authentic clubbing experiences.

With tech-house subgenres eclipsing club activities on the island, Drum & Bass’s popularity has been limited. However, with last years IMS celebrating 40 years of jungle and Drum & Bass, this year’s Hospital Records anniversary celebrations at Akasha, and collectives and club nights like Optimal Mass initiating the islands embrace of Drum & Bass, the bass genre has carved a defined tributary on the island.

Friday 17th April kicks off the residency with Ibiza regular Mark System, along with Manchester based artist Zar, and rising talent Luna. Each month will feature a carefully curated lineup of artists that Makino Agency represents, blending established names such as Monrroe & Duskee, GLXY, Kyrist, Sustance & SABRINA, together with guest names and emerging talent based both locally and internationally.

With statistics showing global growth in popularity for UK bass genres, Makino Ibiza's arrival signals that Ibiza is gradually catching up with the rest of the world when it comes to 140 bpm plus genres.

Subsequent events will take place on Friday 29th May, Friday 19th June, Friday 17th July, Friday 21st August, Friday 18thSeptember . Buy your tickets here
